    The Benefit Specialist is responsible for administering and coordinating the various employee benefit programs for the district including the medical, prescription, vision, and dental plans; disability insurance, life insurance, workers' compensation program, and the employee assistance program.  The Benefit Specialist processes and tracks attendance for all employees. The Benefit Specialist may participate in special projects related to employee benefits and to provide general assistance to the operations of the Office of Human Resources.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

    • Administers and coordinates the medical, prescription, dental, and vision insurance plans for all employees including the open enrollment process.
    • Serves as an advocate for employees in resolving benefit or billing issues; confers with service providers to resolve disputes regarding benefits; responds to employee questions and attempts to mediate and resolve benefit problems.
    • Coordinates the various specialized benefit programs available to staff, including workers' compensation, employee assistance program, and insurance waiver program.
    • Provides data, reports, and benefit program change recommendations in preparation for meetings with support staff and the Act 93 group, as well as with negotiations with the bargaining unit.  Presents information, assists with preparing and analyzing proposals, and provides support during bargaining meetings as needed.
    • Monitors benefit program costs and usage reports; makes recommendations regarding plan design and cost containment initiatives; monitors changes in law and/or contracts and their impact upon the benefit programs.
    • Ensures compliance with all applicable state and federal laws, Board policy and regulations.
    • Conducts group and/or individual benefit information sessions with staff.
    • Orient new employees to HR In Touch.
    • Reviews and approves/disapproves benefit changes made by staff in HR In Touch.
    • Distributes required information to staff and maintains records ensuring compliance with all COBRA and HIPAA law regulations.
    • Works in conjunction with Accounts Receivable to administer COBRA benefit, as needed.
    • Sends Medicare Part D information to all employees on or before October 10 of each year.
    • Manages the staff attendance tracking system for the district, maintains accurate attendance records in Frontline – Absence Management and Skyward; creates daily attendance reports for the Director of Human Resources.
    • Tracks employee leaves of absence (FMLA, childrearing, sabbatical, workers' compensation, and unpaid leave as per Board policy) in Skyward and communicates with employees to gather required paperwork and determine date of return.
    • Communicates with the buildings, payroll, and technology about temporary staffing changes due to employee leaves of absence.
    • Serves as the Frontline – Absence Management Coordinator; reconciles attendance data between Absence Management and Skyward.
    • Works with Professional, Act 93, and Secretarial Sick Bank Committees and ensures a sick day is allocated for employees choosing to donate to the Sick Leave Bank.
    • In conjunction with the Director of Human Resources, oversees tasks of Administrative Assistant (Benefits).
    • In conjunction with Human Resource colleagues, maintains personnel files in the Office of Human Resources.
    • Performs any other job-related duties, projects, and responsibilities as assigned by the Superintendent or their designee.


    Spring-Ford Area School District offers a comprehensive benefits package including medical, dental, vision and prescription insurance, as well as paid time off and a tuition reimbursement program. This position is part of the PSERS retirement system.

    Salary: $53,000 - $57,000, commensurate with experience.
    Schedule: Full-time, 12 months/year. 7.5 hours/day.


    Experience: Human Resources and Benefits Administration experience preferred.
    Applicants must submit copies of current Act 34, 151, and 114 clearances.
